Striped Flower Hot Pad

As much as I love designing my own patterns, sometimes I’ll see something on Pinterest and just feel like I have to make it. I’ve seen many versions of these Striped Flower Hot Pads, made by many people and in many different colors, so with much searching I tracked down the pattern on Free Craft Unlimited. It’s a quick and fun pattern to make, and the resulting hot pad is also functional. The first one I made while sitting and visiting with family after lunch on Christmas day, and the second while watching a movie a few weeks later. If you’re looking for a project that is easy to take on-the-go or work on while multi-tasking, this is a great one.

I used Hobby Lobby’s Crafter’s Secret Cotton yarn in Royal Blue and Bright Orange for this project. It doesn’t seem to matter how many teeshirts I had or Gator Tervis Tumblers I’ve bought, there always seems to be a good reason to have something new in orange and blue. As a Florida alum, I guess now it’s in my blood. I can’t even walk down the yarn aisles without my eyes and hands gravitating towards the orange and blue.

To complete this pattern, you will need to know the following stitches: sl knot and ch, sc, dc

The only change that I made from the original pattern was to begin with a magic circle instead of the ch 4 and sl st to form a ring. Whenever a project is worked in the round, I love beginning with a magic circle, as it allows for a clean and uniform center.

For supplies, I used:
4.0 mm (US G) hook [Affiliate Link]
Tapestry Needle [Affiliate Link]
Less than a skein in each color of Crafter’s Secret cotton yarn. With the two skeins of yarn, I made two hot pads with plenty of yarn to spare.

These hot pads can be used with either side facing up, but do have a slightly different look depending on the side you choose. If you’d like to make some of these fun colorful hot pads for yourself, visit Free Craft Unlimited for a great pattern with easy and complete instructions!
